Tom DeLay is unamerican. What else can explain his willingness to put the interests of big business before those of the people. America was founded in a large part to escape the tyranny of the oppressor. It looks to me like DeLay was born about 300 years too late, and on the wrong side of the Atlantic.
The DeLay phenomenon is sensational, yet it is just the tip of a large insidious ice berg that has floated into Washington DC in the last dozens or so years.
America needs a thorough house cleaning of our governmental structures and systems. Are we going to have one?
It remains to be seen, whether the current system of checks and balances will suffice to prevent the full erosion of the rights of the people and the land. The tide of of corporate sway is high, and the current will be strong.
It may be that the corporate titan and the plutocratic society which reigns over it will simply have to spell its own eventual destruction.
I don't know if I would go that far. I'd say this guy was foolish. No one who is a politician does it for the money. It's all about power. We should also use the "current system of checks and balances" that says we are innocent until proven guilty. I use the old "duck" analogy...If it looks like; acts like; quacks like... Churchill said "democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time" so we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. Also remember that without 'corporate America' we have not much if any economy. No one lives in a vacuum. In a global economy we are relied upon to be the largest consumer nation in the world. As far as the house cleaning that needs to be done...Unfortunately I've been around long enough to see this before... I tend to believe Pete Townshend on that subject... "meet the new boss...same as the old boss"...
ReplyDeleteWith corporatism, our economy is being destroyed via the outsourcing overseas of jobs, be they labor, r & d, even service sector jobs are moving out. The only thing that isn't moving out, or moving to minimum wage type jobs are ownership and management positions.

If the trend is allowed to continue, it will mean the steady erosion of the middle class, a swelling of the lower class and an upper class which will rely more and more on fear and violence to subdue and quell the masses.
One thing that is truely missing from our generation are solutions. We are very apt at pointing out a problem but poor at best in finding an answer. Our entitlement mentality is what I feel is eroding our nation. I see all over the place people saying get rid of "*" (fill in the blank from both sides of the aisle) but rarely someone who stands up and takes a bullet for what he believes in. TRUTH TELLERS COULD NEVER BE ELECTED BECAUSE EVERYTHING WE KNOW COMES IN 5 MINUTE SOUND BITES!!! One thing I respect about you Rob is that you actually think about what you write and say. It's not about change...it's about leading...
