Global Water Dances Olympia
I have a couple new posts about the Global Water Dances 2011, Olympia. A couple photos here and video here. It was an awesome event: wonderful, magical, divine. We were blessed with great weather for the ceremony. So check it out. We even had a blue heron fly over at the start of the Global Water Dance. It was flapping strangely! A good omen perhaps.
Be well!

Moon Over Capitol
People and public interest over profit. Schools not war. Government needs to STOP working for the advantage of some over others! General Strike! No school, no work, until government works for mutual benefit—for the public interest.
End corporate control!

The Legislative Building dome reflects on Capitol Lake. The Moon illuminates clouds in the sky.

Minnehaha Falls
I am in the City of Minneapolis right now. One of my favorite places in the city is Minnehaha Falls. Minneapolis has an extensive park system. It's one of the highlights of life here for many people. This afternoon the air was breezy, thin, cold, and dry, but the sky was clear (besides some atmospheric pollution in the form of haze.) The early winter sunlight was beautiful (probably even enhanced, ironically, by the pollution.)
Minnehaha creek feeds into the Mississippi river—not far from Minnehaha falls. Today the water was flowing, it was quite interesting to watch the flowing water disappear into a shell of ice.
I have memories from when I was a teenager of climbing behind the frozen ice of the falls.
Today, I thought I could hear some of the ice cracking.
I have heard that the City turns on municipal water supplies to feed the creek. I am not sure if that's the case currently (as seen in the following photos.) Anyway, the falls are an impressive sight.
Here are some photos of Minnehaha Falls in the winter. There are a few more posted on my Flickr site.

So much clean snow. Quite a wonder.

This is in Olympia Washington. The source of the smoke is likely the Sewage treatment plant.

This panorama is far from perfect, many of the seams are off. The color temperature is off. Perfection isn't the goal.
Whoa were there some awesome clouds today!

Moonglow, City Glow, Clouds and the Sound
October 2009
Eld Inlet, Olympia, Washington
The clouds are lit from beneath by city light - presumably from the Tacoma/Gig Harbor region of the Puget Sound. Interesting how pollution can actually cause incredibly beautiful scenes, sometimes.

Olympia Harbor in 1856
Washington did not become a state until 1889. Washington was the 42nd state to become part of the United States.
In 1856, over 30 years prior to Washington becoming a state, the landscape around Olympia was very different than it is today, in 2010.
I imagine that the environment was much healthier back then, with great flocks of wild birds, and a bounteous feast accessible for harvest from the waters of the Salish Sea.

I am not super keen on the thick border on this photo, but it's a pretty view of the mountains:
